The pervert from Barwell, Leicester, used the spy pen to watch his naked step daughter in the shower, Leicester Crown Court heard. The young girl accidentally stumbled across numerous indecent videos and images of herself when she borrowed his laptop.

The man, who is in his late 40’s, has been jailed for 2 years. He admitted two counts of voyeurism and one count of making 87 indecent images of the devastated victim, when she was aged between 17 and 18 years old.

The court also heard that the pervert also “harvested or hacked” into his step daughters mobile phone to covertly copy pictures she had privately taken of herself in underwear. These photo’s were not part of the prosecution.

Ian Way, prosecuting, said: “When she saw the images on the laptop, she recognised their bathroom then realised the videos were of her naked in the shower. She was with a friend and they were both shocked. The defendant had put a pen camera under the bathroom door; she was aware he had such a device. There were screen shots to take stills of her in the shower – and stepping out of it – which had a glass door.”

In a victim impact statement, the young woman said:

“It completely shook me up. I didn’t know what to do and cried a lot. This was a place where I was supposed to be safe and I wasn’t.”

The teenage girl described the ‘negative impact’ it has had on her family, that it has destroyed her relationship with her mother and other relatives, who have cut ties with her.

Recorder John Butterfield QC said: “This was a grave breach of trust. It’s had dreadful and very significant effects upon her. You created these images for your own sexual gratification. The voyeuristic acts were perpetrated repeatedly against a known victim who was entitled to receive respect and protection but she received the opposite by your intrusion and betrayal.”

Siward James-Moore, mitigating, said: “He accepts he did get sexual gratification out of filming her – he got a thrill out of it. Addicted is too high a word, but he felt the need to persist in that conduct, although he ceased long before the police were involved.”

The pervert didn’t distribute any of the material, who has been described as a hard-working man with no previous convictions. The images and films were made between 2011 and 2012. The police found two laptops, the spy pen and a hard drive, all of which were confiscated by the court.

The Leicester man, can not be named in order to protect the victims identity. He has been made the subject of a five year sexual harm prevention order and will have to enlist on a sex offender register for 10 years.

After the case, a senior relative on the defendant’s side of the family told the Leicester Mercury: “I think he’s scum for what he’s done to his step-daughter.” The clearly distressed victim attended court to watch her step-father being jailed but declined to comment.
